Where is DRAWN animation in 2012 ?
It seems that in North America there is currently nothing happening with feature-length hand-drawn animation at the big mainstream "Hollywood" studios (Disney , etc.) . There is still a perception on the part of some that "as Disney goes, so goes the world" and that we must wait for Disney to "save hand-drawn animation" , but it is clear to me that is not necessarily going to happen .
There is hand-drawn production that takes place in the rest of the world, as well as television series work in North America (and by "hand-drawn" I'm broadly including shows that may have the final art made in applications like Flash or ToonBoom, but are drawing-based production, as opposed to "3D" animation in Maya . Whether it's drawn on a Cintiq or on paper is not the issue to me . ) There are also studios that still do drawn commercials for advertising. So I'm not just talking about feature film production in mainstream Hollywood movie studios.
I'm trying to compile a list of studios around the world who are still actively engaged in making drawn animation. If anyone wants to contribute to the list I'd appreciate any additions.
Here's my partial list so far :
● Duncan Studio
● Walking the Dog
● Headless Productions
● Cartoon Saloon
● Michael Sporn Animation
● Buzzco Associates
● Jib Jab
● Laika (primarily stop-motion, but some hand-drawn for commercials)
● Golden Street Animation
● 6 Point Harness
● Bento Box
● Film Roman
● Titmouse Studios
● Mercury Film Works
● SPA Studios
● Studio Ghibli
● Duck Studios
● Neomis Animation
● A. Film Production
● Sandes Media
● Premise Entertainment
Please feel free to add to the list .

Yes. I want to add our Studio which has produced 3 Films so far (Shorts) and will be producing another 2 ` Meena ` films for UNICEF. so considering producing 2d films...yes..we are still doing it now. though they are TV quality.
Well, as I mentioned before, my current employer Studio Soi (in combination with Cartoon Network) is doing digital 2D work on The Amazing World of Gumball and will continue to do so at least until the end of October ...
If I recall, there was a hybrid 2D/3D animated film in the works.
