    New Sketch of Kangi

I made a new sketch of my character Kangi after Don had critiqued the first drawing of him. I wanted to find what his core emotions were and after some thinking it came out that he puts on false emotions on the outside as no one has wanted to be his friend. He is mischievous but it is his way to get others to notice him. He is starving for attention but he doesn't always show it openly. He does make some good friends later on but right now in his life he is rejected and alone. This pic shows a moment when no one is around as he would never let others see his true feelings, so everyone give him a hug. I hope I was able to portray well the feeling of being utterly alone and I was able to do a better drawing of my character Kangi. I will be doing a colored version but for now enjoy the sketch! If you see any improvements to be made let me know!

Hello, Josh. One critique, made to order!

You're indeed showing improvement on adding asymmetry to your character. His mood and feelings here are very clearly expressed. I'm a bit confused by how intense he looks though. Given the position of his eyebrows, his gritted teeth, and the way his clenching his chest, he looks like he's in some sort of physical pain. If that's what you were aiming for, then you did a great job at conveying just how frustrated and distraught your character is.

My only suggestion would be to tone down the severity of his expression, unless, of course he's supposed to be that upset. Apart from that, I think you did a very nice job, Josh! Keep up the good work, my friend!

Thanks Seth for your input! I was trying to go for the inner pain of being alone but maybe I overdid a bit with his expression and looks more like outer physical pain. His hand clenching his chest was supposed to show he has no one else to hold onto but himself and a showing of him just drawing into himself like an invisible shell with his arms placed like that. Thanks for your help in pointing out the things I can work on and my improvements as well. I look forward to more drawing and getting better. Take care friend!

I agree with Seth - his expression and posturing are a bit too harsh to depict sadness. Other than that, you're doing really well. Keep it up!

    Redesign of Character

This is a new drawing of an old character I made up a long time ago. Her name is Sera and she is a bit of a tomboy. She hates it when others tell her she can't do something because she is a girl and will prove to other boys that she can. She can be a bit willful if she doesn't like something, but she is loving and caring especially to little kids as she enjoys helping and playing with them. She does have her girlie side but doesn't show it that often unless she trusts that person to show more of her feelings. Sera was the first character that made up a story for and there is more to her than I am saying here. It has been a while since I last made a drawing of her and I wanted to redesign her look as she looked more anime style in my previous drawings. Her animal look is a white cat and I hope I was able to make her design good and that her posture doesn't look funny. Give me your thoughts before I finish her up and color her.

    Hey, Josh!

The first thing I see in your picture of Sera is how much you've improved since your last drawing. You're showing more control in your linework, the anatomy of the character looks quite good. A few of her proportions seem off such as the size of her hands, but this could be intentionally done as part of her design. The pose is quite good, too.

The only thing I would suggest you fix is her right leg. Her foot looks a tad small, like it's farther in the background than it should be. Also, the position of her foot looks a bit awkward. Aside from that, Sera looks really nice! You said she's supposed to be a cat and that's exactly what she looks like. Excellent work, Josh! Keep it up, man!

Thanks for your input! I was talking to Joe and he pointed out a lot of the same things. I'm glad I was able to show improvement in my drawing and I'm off to fix some of those things like her foot.
