Hi Don, the DVD just arrived today in the mail, and I sit right through it while holding my breath. Simply amazing!.....
Well first of all thank you again for making this great DVD, I really felt as if I was peaking behind your shoulder while you where animating the scene.. everything it's very clear and well illustrated throughout the DVD, however one question popped in my head while watching the beginning of your tutorial:

How do you figure out the numbers of frames and feet of film that fits into a scene from a storyboard sequence?
Specifically, in the DVD the scene you animate is 5 Feet and 2 frames long, the scene it's split in 2 story sketches... one it's 2 feet long, the other 3 feet and 2 frames long. What is the thought process behind this?
Did you approximate the scene by acting it out while using a chronometer or a metronome and then you convert the seconds into feet footage and frames....or there is more to it?
Finally, do you always break down the rhythm of the scene you start to animate by drawing it on 9's or this applies specifically only for the scene you animate for this DVD?

Sorry for the long winded questions I really want to try to animate a scene myself!... but until I've figure out how to efficiently plan the timing in my scene I feel that I will not be able to take full advantage of your instructions from this great DVD.
Take care Don,
Felice.

I received it last night and watched it. :)

I do have a couple requests.

1. Still gallery, so we can go through with ease.

2. More detail into doing the inbetweens, i think we would benfit from seeing the whole process

Overal, great video, probably the best so far!

I think that is the idea. :)
I'm very interested in that aspect as well as I've not been exposed to professional inbetweening. As inbetweening is a laborious process though I'd rather see Don's work in setting up and roughing out the animation in a scene.

I wonder if any of Don's old protege's would join in and collaborate by inbetweening some of Don's extremes? There is only one Don Bluth and only so many hours in his day.

Ordered Disc 1 and 2 but they haven't arrived as of yet. They say the fun is in the anticipation of the thing... but... I right now I'm not quite believing it. ;)

Thanks for the feedback everyone is posting here on these DVDs. That's will help tremendously.

You've posted this image several times! I'm aware that your country is not listed on our shipping page; we're currently in the process of fixing this problem with our credit card authorization company. You can still purchase this DVD through PAYPAL. There's a separate PayPal button included for customers not listed in our website country database.

Thanks

Dave

I have just watched both DVD's. I can only say that I learned more from them then any book I have read. It is so much easier to learn when you can see it for yourself. So thank you Don and Dave for such a wonderful tool.

I have a question about the scanning however which is not covered.

Are you using flipbook? Do you scan you drawings into the program? And this is the really important question I have. How do you scan such a long pan background into the system????? This is a question I hope someone can help me along with.

Or did you film the sequence on film the old fashion way, and move the camera one inch etc. slow in and slow out of the background.

If someone can help out with this question please do.

Also can you continue with the DVD's to the cleanup stage then to final colouring in the next edition.

P.S. BUY the DVD's NOW!!!! You will not be disappointed.

Thank again!!!!

Mike
