(the article is dated Sept. 19, but if I recall correctly Don, Gary Goldman, and John Pomeroy left Disney to start their own studio on Sept. 13, 1979. Most of the others who went with them left over the next day or two after that. )

A big thanks to all of you for the birthday wishes. My birthday, of course, is the anniversary of seventeen people leaving Disney to make The Secret of NIMH. I think the exodus was a very nice birthday gift but sometimes I feel very nostalgic about my old Alma Mater.

It does seem rather symbolic that you left on your birthday. A birth of a new studio. Was there a celebration for you birthday or did the weight of the situation make you feel you had to jump right in to work?
