Wow great seeing that video and hearing about the process. I loved the book. I remember when I was reading it I could see it in my head as animation. I think that is partly why it is so intriguing to find out it almost was!
Really neat to hear stories of various projects that almost happened.
Mr. Bluth if you don't mind me asking... was it to be a feature or a special? Also roughly what year(s) was it being made?
Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful Rag Bag video.
Its also very timely as well considering the passing of Michael Jackson recently.
I knew he had an interest in animation but didn't know anything about 'Jonathan Livingston Seagul'.
There are enough simularities one wonders if someone exposed to 'JLS' may have applied some of the charm and plotlines to 'Happy Feet'.

Thank you so much for sharing. Mr. Bluth, you do the best animated birds. Never quite figured out how Jeremy's wing went to hand and then a wing again. That really made me think about comparative anatomy.
Neil Diamond beat MJ to writing music to Jonathan Livingston Seagull for the live action version. Never saw it....but read the book a couple times when I was 13-14....should read it again. ANyway, readers should check out Neil Diamond's music; it is glorious...and was the highest selling soundtrack album until Saturday Night Fever knocked it off.
In the LP there's a booklet with a sketch (among other papers) of Beethoven looking at a seagull. ALways assumed Neil DIamond drew it. If he did, he's a quite good artist.
