do you go to life drawing classes or draw people on the street?

I'm looking forward to this weekend. I've got the following monday and tuesday off work and a family reunion to attend. Gonna try filling my sketchbook and also take a crack at a comic book idea I had. Anyway, here's yesterdays lunch drawings.

Edit: Oh and I'm mostly drawing from either my imagination or print offs of poses that I found on deviantart. I like seeing all the different styles people use for the same poses.

Wow, the amount of work and effort you're putting in to study drawing is great! These drawings remind me a lot of my own when I started animation. I'm not sure if you're looking for advice or suggestions but if I could go back and do one thing differently, it would be to work on my ability to visualize. Don has a few videos on this site and if you check out the Milt Kahl tribute (http://www.oscars.org/events-exhibitions/events/2009/kahl.html), there's a video near the end with Floyd Norman who speaks about how Milt would sit and visualize until the scene was done in his head. Hope that helps you out drawing!

Thanks for the tips Jeremy. I'll check out those videos. A hiccup in my drawing schedule. Couldn't find time to sit down with my sketchpad during vacation.

One of the things I like about your drawings is that the characters all seem to be involved in doing things. They aren't just posing for the 'camera'.

This is a very good thing in my opinion.

Your second double bounce test shows a huge improvement! Good for you! The overall advice I could give is don't draw just the outline. Try to construct the character from a line of action, then add the main volumes, and finally the detail. Focus on the hips and figure out the high and low points. The Preston Blair book is great for construction and I hope you can continue study and compare your drawings to the original!

Here's a question for you (my apologies if you've already answered it somewhere else).

I know you said you used some references but for those images that that you do not...

When you are doing these sketches do you actually see them in your mind?
I'm curious because usually I don't. I'm working on that because I know that visualization would help me improve a lot.

I visualize very little with my drawings. Generally because I'm rushing to fill a page for practice during my lunch break. It's something i need to practice more on the weekend when I might have time.

Love them all Jeremy. Alot of this is going in my reference morgue. You have some great drawings in here.
Thanks and I just wanted to say I think you're doing the right thing by going to the source and studying the original creators. If you keep my drawings for inspiration, that's cool but I wouldn't recommend studying them because you'd pick up on my mistakes. I'll try to list my sources so you know who I've studied. Keep up the hard work and I'm sure in no time, I'll be coming to you for advice!

you are really improving...now, i think, you need to concentrate more about form....think things as a cube,then find the perspective...you will find lots of cartoon form in Prestos Blair`s book....
(i can see that you are working with form now)

hey..you are learning perspective!!,,,good for you..it is the main thing when we try to create 3d vision on 2d surface....the more you learn..your drawings will look more volume......remember..perspective is everywhere(Building,animal,figure.birds ...i mean..everywhere)
