After looking at the CyberGarage wolf, I thought I'd give a shot at modeling him w/ Maya & Zbrush.
The wolf's geometry is around 16,000 polys. The copper pot and overalls are modeled separately and put on their own layer, which allows to suit him up in different clothes. I made several vests for him as well.
Zbrush was used primarily to UV map and paint but I also used it to bump up the geometry to the current level we see.
Now the fox is rigged with a skeleton for animation. It was smooth binded and I spent a good deal of time painting skin weights. It was pretty tricky around the stubby legs and giant tail. Good practice, tho.
I'll have a walk/run cycle based on given charts.

Shoot, I keep getting an error from the link, can't see it. (EDIT: Now it shows pending approval, I guess we'll have to wait)
Also, check out Wills stuff, I think he mentioned some where he does models for games and did a low poly of the wolf on this page:

Wow that's really neat! I can barely even figure out how to get two objects to parent in maya let alone model anything. XD Really nice work! I can't wait to see the animation you come up with for this guy. ^_^

That's pretty funny. Maya is deep. God knows how much time I've invested over the last 5-6 yrs. I'd say 99% of the work is in the trash up to now.
I'm starting the animation today. We'll see what happens.
