Cartoon Eric's Cartoon Illustrations

Catchy title, isn't it? Here's where I'll be displaying some of my better pieces of cartoon artwork that I'm most proud of. Of course I don't mind a critique at all so if there's something that needs improving in any of my pictures feel free to let me know. I've advanced a lot since 1999 when I started getting serious about cartoon art but I am no where near perfect yet. I'm not even that confident yet. :p

Anyway, without further ado I'd like to start of my illustration thread by introducing to you folks my two main cartoon characters, who you'll be seeing a lot. They are a pair of lizards named Ned Newt and Sam Salamander. I like to consider them my Mickey Mouse to my Walt Disney.

I was digging around in my hard drive and found this among my saved files of drawings. It's my attempt at drawing Dirk the Daring. It's referenced off the box art for the Dragon's Lair II game. I feel like I did a good job drawing Dirk the way I saw him in that picture. It's inked traditionally and colored with Photoshop. It was certainly a good practice for me. :)

One of the best things about having your own characters is that they are like your actors. You give them a personality and then stick them in certain roles and see what develops from there. Like we've seen Mickey Mouse in all sorts of different roles. Like a scientist, a ghost exterminator with his friends, and even a magician. Bugs Bunny is another great example. In his case you can stick him in different time periods or other roles and see what happens from there. Versatile characters often get the best results. And right here in this picture of my lovable character Ned Newt he's portrayed as the notorious singing pirate known as Neddy of the High C's. The idea is that the only thing vicious about him as a pirate is that he sings in rhyme and that he is terrible at hitting the high notes. So it's too bad he's tone deaf. Kinda reminds me of those silly pirates from Curse of Monkey Island 3 the game.
