I do..........
It's what puts food on the table and pays the bills. I'm a Carpenter by trade and a artist by night. I used to be a sign painterfor almost 20 years until the computer took over well here I am pounding nails and butchering wood for a living. I thought I'd post one of my fun projects I built for my kids......

i own my own webdesign/hosting/seo company
basically right now, i have enough clients that pay monthly to where i dont need to find new work so i can focus on animating/learning/life drawing/reading
which i am very thankful for :)
however, i do want to get a job at either sea world (to swim with the dolphins) or disney world (just to be able to say i worked @ disney!) being that they are down the block basically
here is a picture of me infront of my company banner trying to act cool

I ussually help my dad at his buisness removing oil tanks :D its ruff and you have to be tough especially when I am left alone to do hand digs like 6ft deep, then once the tank is removed my dad drops off a truckload of sand and I have to bucket fill the hole sometimes:laughing:. try doing that for 4hrs straight:laughing: filling an 8ft hole with buckets.

I am the lead artist in the flexo pre-press art department of a large printing company by day and a creative artist / wanna be animator by night. :D I have been there going on 12 years now and this is the first bad year the company has had. They have cut our workforce almost in half since november of last year and the rest of us are down to 38 hours a week from 40 hours before. I would agree with the fact that we are all lucky to have jobs right now! I hope and pray things improve soon!

Sort of similar, I'm a graphic artist in the editorial department of my local newspaper. We use to print with our 20-year-old flexo press that's 3 stories.
I've been there near 9 years and up until the last 3 years we always met budget or better, which always included a bonus. Then we had two large layoffs with buyouts. Then sadly we actually shutdown our press to print at our sister paper over an hour away. That decision alone put 123 people out of work.
Our paper print quality was the best, no smell and didn't rub off because of the newer flexo press, now we use our sister newspaper's older press, but larger, that smells and rubs off. They put us on an older section that has worse quality. And now have to meet earlier deadlines with a fraction of the staff. First they told us a benefit would be more color pages, less pre-runs. Plates cost 4 times less that the flexo press ones. We hardly did more and then told us we were way over budget for color. This last week we do a couple days black and white on the back main section. After all there was a 3rd round of layoffs, paycuts, furloughs with no guarantee of it happening again.
we even sold our entire building to have part of it leased back. The deal requires us to dismantled and remove the press, that will be costly, it's built into the structure I think.
Aerial of building posted by another worker showing empty space (press the large section in the back left):

I managed to survive all this, but they've cut back sections, color, so there's less opportunities to do art. Recently been taking over doing the entire layout for our front section cover and back with our pagination software, Hermes. At least my skills in illustrator and photoshop has put a bit more polish and creativity when I work on it.
We're owned by larger company, McClatchy, which means any cuts we make, like selling our building and parking lot for $7 million won't count towards saving our jobs, but to pay off debt and they'll treat us equally with all the other papers that made less sacrifice when more company wide layoffs occur.
But I'm glad I got a job, and using my time to learn art and 3D, no more games like I use to. Basically using my free time to improve myself and save to prepare for the worst. So glad Don Bluth created this site, helps keep me focused and the competitions help.

I work in the Funding Department of a Title Company. I handle all the money, but get to keep none of it :(
In these tough economic times, I'm lucky to have a job in real estate considering what a mess that's been for the last two years. It pays the bills :)

I work a retail counter at a print shop.
....
I wish I had a good enough job that I could be worried about its continuing existence like the rest of you. :P
I wonder if it's typical of a good job that you don't really feel like the world thinks you're entirely necessary?

yeah but mine is sort of indirectly related to what i do
i'm a graphic artist for an educational software company
but i don't do illustration there
more like layouts and the like
it's got it's perks, but it's definitely not where i want to be in a few years.

I've worked a number of day jobs when not in a studio earning a paycheck.
Photocopy store worker, bookstore bookshelver, movie survey interviewer and verification (Nielsen in L.A.), filing for a commercial bank, busboy at a nice cafe, telemarketer, office work at a pharmaceutical lab/warehouse, office temp receptionist, nanny, and more.

I work at CBS interactive doing graphic design. More specifically my branch does the official athletic websites for several big universities.
Then on the side I have a graphic design company with a buddy. However right now I am on hold from freelance while I am attending Animation Mentor. It got a bit too hectic doing both.
I have a gallery of some of my work Here (http://www.zanekohler.com/graphics-gallery) although most of it is a couple years old now.

I work at a company called MSI as their art director during the day, but by the end of June I will be going with a friend of mine to start our own design company called A New Creature Studio. This will also allow me to draw and animate alot more. I am really looking forward to that. Times are tough though, so hopefully everything will work out.
