Hey I finally got some of my drawings up.
What do you think? Feel free to creteek.(I don't think that's spelled right)
This one is one of my favorites. It's an alien creature named Skeazy I made up for a story.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww357/masnrag/Skeazy-1.png?t=1240734964
This is a picture I drew of myself. Their was supposed to be a zombie at the other end of that flamethrower, but I ended up taking up the whole page. It's going to be a part of a bigger picture I'm working on of me, my brother, and are two friends on one of are Call of Duty, zombie, adventures.(Picture of us in a video game)
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww357/masnrag/Me.png?t=1240735049
Another alien I thought of for a story.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww357/masnrag/Creature.png?t=1240735109
This is a picture I drew of Sonic the Hedgehog. I wanted to see what he would look like as a more..... traditional cartoon? I guess that's what you'ed call it. I don't know? As you could see I nixed the Mickey Mouse gloves and gave him some fingerless gloves and some sweet high top shoes. I get a lot of my inspiration for drawing's from the 80's.
http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww357/masnrag/Sonic.png?t=1240735220
That first character is really neat. Part of me wants to run away and part of me wants to hug him.
I really like the expression in the flamethower picture and that alien below it looks fierce.

Yeah, you should take this guy and put some time into him. Rework him, repost him, take critique, and see what you can make of it.

Um, yeah... I agree. But you might want to point out exactly what you think is lacking - and possibly some suggestion(s) on how to fix them.
For example:
I would suggest rotating the fingers of the far "thumbs up" hand slightly towards or away from the camera so the structure can be defined a little more clearly.
Also the stripes on the tongue(?) near the mouth confuse me some. They almost line up with the detail behind it suggesting it may be transparent. Perhaps this would be clearer in color.

I'm really quite surprised at the characters you posted which tells me that you do have an artistic ability. And from the look of the characters, particularly Skeazy, and your latest drawing of the creature in the overcoat... It feels like you had a good time drawing them. I'm impressed! Keep up the good work.

You know, I did have a good time. I think my problem is that I just have such a hard time getting into that drawing state of mind, so half the time it's just a terrible experience.

Me and my bro and some of are friends used to be WAAAAAAY into Star Wars Miniatures. (Parents didn't raise me. Star Wars and Sonic the Hedgehog did.)
I've finally found a use for all the stat cards they came with. I used the original drawing as reference, and then caricatured it. I must say it's my best work yet.

No, my older brother tought me how to use it.

Is it... Marty Mcfly?;) You see we thought it would be cool to make a space story with a 1950s theme to it. So we got alot of reference from 50s movies. By the time we got to Back to the Future, my brother decided he really liked that jacket Marty wares in the movie.;)
Sounds good. I've thought about doing a children's book before, but I'm not disciplined enough to stick with anything. Oh well.
That's cool you have your brother helping you. I think drawing is more enjoyable when you have someone to bounce your ideas off of.

Over the past month walking home from work I realized I love Dinosaurs! So I did a study on how to draw a T-Rex.:)
One thing I like about this is that it doesn't have that box nose that EVERY animated dinosaur (I've seen) has.
http://donbluthanimation.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=182&pictureid=1020
This is Kenny, the talking dinosaur. He lives in southern California with his best friend. A small 10 year old boy named Spencer. Kenny is an ignorant, immature, stubborn, dunce who has a hard time being patient. While Spencer is a smart kid who tries his hardest just to keep Kenny a secrete and keep him from leaving his room while he's at school. Which of course for the sake of a good story Kenny dose leave the room and then his house.
In my mind there's only one man who can pull of the voice for a character like this.
Charlie Day.

Thought I'd mind as will put my entry to the last contest in here while I'm at it.
CHARACTER BIO:
This is Jake Marko. He’s a 28 year old Redzenak; a species of nocturnal lizard men that see in the dark from a planet called Juno. Redzenak’s eyes are extremely sensitive to light so Jake always has to be wearing a pair of special goggles that adjusts the amount of light that passes through to them or he would go blind in a matter of seconds. He lives in a galaxy called the Cyclone Galaxy were he’s the Chief Engineer on a space traveling cargo ship called the Conveyor. Jake enjoys his job. He likes being part of a team and working with machines, and is a hands on kind of guy. Whenever he’s uncertain or troubled with anything he just goes to work on something. He gains certainty and comfort from the fact that it’s something he has control over. Plus he listens to music and gets to talk to different people from all over the galaxy that work on the ship about different stuff and enjoys the variety from that. But a life in space isn’t easy. The ship always has to have a man on watch for pirates and a plague like species of racist carnivorous creatures known as the Hydra. They can live for about 200 years and have the bad habit of over populating. They also control a third of the galaxy and are at war with an alliance of free planets called the Interplanetary Coalition.
http://donbluthanimation.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=182&pictureid=940
Here's some info about his species:
This is Jake Marko. He’s a species called a Redzenak from a planet called Juno. Redzenak are nocturnal, reptilian like creatures that have no eyelids, but tough, transparent coverings that protect the eyes like a snakes eyes. They also have four arms, antennas, and strong legs capable of jumping 12 feet in the air and running at speeds around 40 miles an hour. Redzenak are also known for their glowing eyes, which vary in color, giving them the ability to see in complete darkness. But though they have built in night vision, Redzenak eyes are extremely sensitive to light. If exposed to direct sunlight, without proper eye protection, a Redzenak will go painfully blind in a matter of seconds causing the eyes to stop glowing and change to a faded reddish yellow color.

I was afraid some one might associate this with that. Not that I stole the idea or anything because I've never even watched the show until after you mentioned that to me just to see how similar they are. But I did see the intro for it once a while back on youtube. My first idea was to have it be in Arizona but then I looked outside and noticed this,

Oh, and the 120 degree summers.
Man Vs Wiled said it best. "Why is it that everything around here is either spiky sharp or out to kill you." I'd put a laughing face but I ran out of images.
Any way, I didn't know if it was a big deal or not. I just thought that would be cool to be a kid and have a pet dinosaur as a friend and I just went to Santa Barbra, California for spring break and thought that would be an awesome fun place to live.
My brother read in one of his writing books that you can do something someone else has done as long as you don't violate the copyright and you improve the original idea.
I don't really know though, that just doesn't sound like art to me.
What do you guys think?

Here's a picture I drew a little while ago that I thought I'd put up.
It goes with a concept I thought of about a kid who builds a jet from alien technology and lives with just himself and his dog in the post apocalyptic future of Arizona.
Basically the prologue of the story is that mute aliens that communicate telepathically first find earth after detecting the bomb drop on Hiroshima in 1945. Later the aliens decide to reveal themselves to earth after the Roswell UFO Incident In 1947 declaring that they come in peace.Eventually contention rises when rumor spreads that the government decided to trade humans for alien technology.Humanity goes to war with the alien race nearly destroying itself with it's nuclear weapons being it's only defense against the advanced alien technology. The aliens then decide that humans are to hostile and self destructive to cope with so they leave earth inviting all the peaceful and good humans to come with them and take two of every species of animal that survived as well.
The present is in the year 1985 were giant alien ships now orbit the earth making sure nothing enters and nothing leaves. EVER. It's a nightmarish world of mutants, monsters, and evil. And at the same time a place of fascinating innovations in science and technology where the safest place to be is in the sky above the earths horrors and radioactive fallout.
And... that's the concept. It's really complexed but one day I plan on having the money and know how to make it.:)
I love the idea because I've always wanted a jet pack and I've always been incredibly fascinated by clouds. Plus I love dogs. It's like love is the only emotion they know.:)
Wow I did not think I was going to right that much.
The face is really great on this character. Love the 80's timeline and the Arizona tie-in. Could this be the last "Money Guns" of the future? The last Money Guns they call......"Samuel Garn?" Always near by is his Proton Dog?
I can see it now. "Samuel Garn: Last of the Money Guns" Coming to a theater near you.....in 3D!
Your drawing is really good. I love the face and the gun on this character. One thing that sticks out though is his leg in the background appears bigger than the one in the foreground. I'm sure you probably noticed that, but I just wanted to be tough on you so you'll get better and finish this Epic Movie.
P.S. Missed your Proto Man drawing! Sweet! Why wasn't he playable in Tatsunoko VS. Capcom? Sheesh!

Thanks Seth!:)
I think I see what you see about the leg. It's always hard to tell what people are talking about when they cant point it out physically because it's on the net. Yea that leg kinda tripped me out but I couldn't figure out why.
What I tried to do is put the center of gravity on his back leg, kinda like he is stepping down a little.
That would be cool if you could figure out a way to draw over the spots that are off so I can see it from your point of view better.
Thanks for the Tip Seth!:)

Looking good Samuel!
I got a lot of quick visuals in my mind from your story description.
The scope of it has got me running scared though!
You have me intrigued about who would be living in this world.
Have you selected a starting point in the story... some place for an audience to jump aboard?
I love the idea because I've always wanted a jet pack and I've always been incredibly fascinated by clouds. Plus I love dogs. It's like love is the only emotion they know.
This seems to be an area you identify with and care a lot about.
Also, would this be mostly animated or live action?

Most likely animated just because I love how it looks and I wouldn't have to worry about the special effects being bad. But don't get me wrong live action would be sweet.
I Imagined the world to have marooned and exiled aliens on it, raiders, mutated gila monsters that are man eating lizard men or dinosaur sized, giant scary looking killer bees that make hives out of whole sky scrapers, giant man eating rattlesnakes; scorpions; and centipedes that have mutated into something even more ugly, all the spiky plants that live down hear in Arizona would be mutated into giant super cacti and stuff like that with massive giant poisonous thorns, and at the same time places that where more populated by earth would be war torn; littered with bones plus alien and human war machines (Flying saucers, tripods, and tanks and such).
Their will also be different factions of good and evil. For one thing there is going to be an organized technologically advanced group of freedom fighters made up of both man and aliens that got left behind. they'll be trying to save and rebuild what's left of America and the rest of the world. They'll be fighting some kind of main opposition I imagined.
The freedom fighters will have giant flying ships made with a combination of human and alien science that they travel and fight in. I imagined them to be like flying metal aircraft carriers that come in deferent sizes that could deploy deferent jets and vehicles and house civilians.
I imagined it to start with a prologue, and then jump to the present where the kid is maybe 16 at first living in a small isolated village with it's own self made government and built like a fortress to keep out the crap. He would live with his family, dog, and other people surviving in the extreme Arizona climate.
At this time the village will have some sort of radio or poorly made communication center where they pick up a radio signal sent out by the freedom fighters. So the kids older brother, that he is vary close to, and a few others decide to leave the village and see if they can find the freedom fighters that sent out the signal and are never seen again.
Here is one of the concepts for the aliens.

I love the idea so much because you could really just let your imagination go wiled with so many crazy ideas!
But like I said it's a really complexed idea so I'm just going to focus on catching the little fish for now until I learn how to go after the big one, sort of speak.
Thanks for the comments everyone.:)
Oh! I forgot of course road warriors with tricked out 1940's/50's ish cars.

Samuel,
If I may offer...
I perceive that you should explore the world of storyboarding as well as what I'd term 'the rapid drawing arts'. Humor me for a moment while I attempt to explore and explain my random thoughts:
- You are a story man.
- Your vision is of worlds in motion and the lives of the characters who live there.
The challenge:
Capture these ideas in their various forms and make them your own.
One way to do this is through storyboarding.
Another would be to record your thoughts as you visualize them into the computer or a recorder. (Play those back and sketch out the ideas as they are reported back to you. As necessary pause the playback.)
Buy a ream/box of typewriter paper and just start drawing.
Each time you finish a drawing/page... drop it into a box.
Do this a lot.
At times when you don't feel like drawing go back and look through that box.
Once you've collected enough drawings take them out and start organizing them into storyboards. They in turn will reveal your story. Then add what is missing and fix what doesn't work.
My thoughts.

Thats a great idea. I've actually kinda already been doing something like that. I have a little note book I carry around in my back pocket that I right all my thoughts, ideas, and reminders in. I call it, the other 90% of my brain.:)
As for storyboarding, that's still on my list of things a NEED to learn.
Thanks Rodney. I'll remember what you said.:)

Welp, this will probably be the last drawing I put up in a long time.
I thought I would share what I have learned from my vary long study (1 master class ago) of the anatomy, emotion, psychology of the human face.
I actually have no problem anymore searching for emotion in characters facial expressions, drawing a face (eyes, mouth, anything) anymore. I even am able to know exactly what the character is feeling and thinking before I even pick up the pencil. I know where all the expressive muscles in the face are, what they do, and more importantly, what emotion they expresses.
For example:
First this character I mades background:
This guy some of you guys from why back when might remember being one of the first drawing's I ever posted. It's in the beginning of this thread if you haven't seen it.
This character I created doesn't have a name yet but here is a little about him. He's a crew member of a ship called the Conveyor (the ships purpose I have yet to think of, but it's basically the stories Millennium Falcon). His job is basically to be the ships man cannon and jump in whenever the weather calls for some loaded pythons (vary big muscles) and some really big gun's.(He's really tall)
As for his personality, he's a genuinely really nice guy who is satisfied with himself, mellow, and is hardly ever in a bad mood. He likes the people he works with on the ship (there will probably be about 10) and is usually whiling to do something for you even when your not asking. He loves the variety and adventure a life traveling to different planets and threw space offers. But thou he's a pretty mellow guy, he tends to get annoyed easily, especially by an obnoxious, confident, self absorbed, 2 1/2 foot tall alien crew member named Skeezy (there is a picture of that one to in the older posts)
One thing he loves that he seams to never be seen without, is one of hi's massive cigar's. Even when he's in the heat of battle, he'll replace a couple huge golden cased bullets from his bandoleer with a few of them, sitting there like giant brown sticks, waiting to be gnawed to death by his giant teeth.
In battle, against the many monsters, aliens, and man eating beast in space, courage is his middle name. In those moments, he tends to spend a lot of time in his head, having his wits about him and is usually the first one to start firing guns blazing even before anyone ells even thinks about it.
But all men have there weaknesses and he's no exception. This guys a mute; he can't speak a peep of English. No one knows really how many languages he understands, but... know one really cares. All they know is that he's always there to be the first one to shoot first, shoot latter, and if anything with a bad attitude is left alive shoot that too.

Second, what I can tell you about the drawing:
First off, what I've learned about the human face, in my most humble opinion, is that the eye's are NOT the most important part of the drawing. It's strait up, the whole face, because thats the what the brain literally reads first when it looks at another person. Anyway I'll get back to that.
Almost all the muscles on the lower right hand side of his face are being flexed not necessarily because he's expressing a feeling but because he has to make room for that stogie. As for the eyes, which is the most complexed part I think, shows that he is flexing a muscle that connects by a tendon from the front of the upper eyelid and sails all the way back over the eye and attaches to the upper back part of the orbit (eye socket). This muscle typically means stern, or serious, or not fooling around. At the same time, he is flexing a muscle that goes from the bottom of the eyelid down to the corner were the upper an lower lip meat. (it's a little hard to tell just because his nose and that cigar) This muscle typically means that the person is in a good mood or happy. It's the muscle that puts that twinkle in a person eye. Cover up the lower half of his mouth and your brain should be able to automatically pick it out.
As for the wrinkles between his eyebrows. Thous are actually from age. They have shown up from using the muscles around the nose and eye that narrow and bring your eyebrows down and together for a longtime or more than other muscles on the face. So what we can tell from that is that either he has gotten annoyed or distressed a lot in his life or he's spent a lot of time glaring from the sun.
(Wow this takes a lot longer to write than to read. PS sorry I can't spell.:o I'm in the process of getting a spell checker.)
So to sum it all up, If you didn't know this guy you'd figure maybe he's had an obnoxious or distressing life, and at the moment he's in a good mood but whatever is going on he's taking serious. So he could be playing a competitive video game and glancing over at his team mate confidently nodding at him thinking in his head "nice" or "good job."
About the BRAIN!!!::eek:
One thing that I have learned is the brain actually has a specific place just for reading facial expressions. So even thou you don't know it, your subconscious actually knows exactly what feeling another person is expressing on there face. It's in fact a huge part of social communication and humans are social creatures. In fact, it is so important, it's the reason why people who are driving on the road are always mad at each other! They can't see what each other are expressing on each others faces from there cars! It's the reason why when some one says, "hay, watch it," over the phone after you've toled them a joke, you cant tell if they said that as a joke or if they really are mad at you. It's the reason why everyone on X-Box live is always yelling and swearing at each other. It's the reason why you get so flipin mad when someone in Halo: Reach T-B@g5 YOU! (It's not what it sounds like. It's Gamer slang)
It's the reason why we have the little smiley faces;). It's the reason why "Benjy" I think it was, fills so comfortable mouthing off on the forum and gets mad at stupid stuff.
My conclusion:
So basically what I believe now; and I'm not trying to win you guys over to my way of thinking or tell anyone they are wrong or anything; but what I believe now when it comes to animation and drawing is that the face is one of the most important parts of the drawing because it's the way the character communicates with the audience. And if the emotion in the characters face is not spot on, even though the audience doesn't know it, EVERYONE KNOWS IT. An interesting thing you could try is try not looking at a drawing with just your eyes but your eyes and your mind sort of speak; look at it as if it was having a conversation with you and you'll be able to feel what the character is feeling(not literally but yea). Your brain will be able to read it unless you have autism disorder; it's a disorder that makes it so that part of the brain dose not work.
Wow! That took for ever! But, I thought it would be cool to share what I've learned with my fellow artists so that you guys don't have to go threw the trouble I did to find this out. It took for ever......
Hope this helps. Just take what you want from what I wrote and throw away the rest. I don't mind.
Oh, and those notes on my drawing, that's what I do to help me remember what I need to learn next, ideas, were I struggle, and stuff like that.
"Full jumpsuit" "Learn how to draw clothes" "I think I need to learn how to make them too" "Learn to draw hair too. This could be better." "Don't forget the ratio. 1:1.618. Try it next time."
I think I broke a new record in longest post typed.

I cant really think of what to say right now so I might go back and change this, but basically this is the design for Dean's dog Sputnik.

And this is the redesign of Dean and this time in his space suit.
Some good development in character concepts - and those in the quote are realy cool.
